Program studi Hukum Keluarga Islam merupakan salah satu program studi di Fakultas Syariah UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim, program studi yang berawal dari Departemen Syariah Sekolah Tinggi Islam Negeri (STAIN) Malang. Didirikan pada tahun 1997/1998 berdasarkan Keputusan Direktur Jenderal Pengembangan Kelembagaan Islam, Kementerian Agama Republik Indonesia: E/107/Tahun 1998 tanggal 13 Mei 1998.
Seiring dengan perubahan status kelembagaan pada tahun 2004 dari STAIN Malang menjadi Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim, status Jurusan Syariah berubah menjadi Fakultas Syariah yang memiliki 2 jurusan, yaitu jurusan al ahwal al syakhsiyah dan Muamalah. Jurusan Al Ahwal al Syakhsiyah, kemudian berubah menjadi Program Studi Hukum Keluarga Islam pada tahun 2017. Program Studi Fakultas Syariah BIFL mendapatkan akreditasi A oleh BAN-PT pada tahun 2007, 2013, dan 2018. Sementara itu, di tingkat internasional, Program Studi IFL telah memperoleh sertifikat yang dikeluarkan oleh QMS ISO 9001:2008 dari UKAS Quality Management England pada tahun 2008 dan 2015 dan mendapatkan sertifikat Asean University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) pada tahun 2020.
Program Sarjana Hukum Keluarga Islam (BIFL) telah merancang profil lulusannya berdasarkan kebutuhan masyarakat. Profil lulusan tersebut adalah sebagai Pemegang Hukum Praktis, Konsultan Hukum Praktis, Penyelenggara Sipil Islam, dan Pemegang Hukum Teoretis. Pemberian profil lulusan sesuai dengan visi dan misi universitas yang dilaksanakan di tingkat program studi.
Mahasiswa baru dipilih melalui beberapa jalur, yaitu: (1) Seleksi Prestasi Akademik Nasional ke Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Negeri; (2) Ujian Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Negeri; (3) Tes Masuk Universitas; dan (4) skema Prestasi Siswa. Isi kurikulum Program Sarjana Hukum Keluarga Islam telah disesuaikan dengan visi dan misi program. Kurikulum terdiri dari 68% mata kuliah dari program studi dan 32% mata kuliah umum (mata kuliah Universitas dan Fakultas). Setiap kursus berkontribusi pada profil lulusan. BIFL memiliki 27 dosen tetap dengan 44% memegang gelar doktor dan 56% memegang gelar master. Rasio dosen terhadap mahasiswa adalah 1:34,37. Rasio ini memenuhi standar rasio yang ditetapkan oleh Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi Indonesia yaitu 1:45 untuk program studi ilmu sosial.

Based on the Graduate Competency Standards and Learning Outcomes of Undergraduate Study Program Graduates published by the Directorate General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in 2018, graduates of the BIFL are able to take on roles as Practical Law Bearers, Practical Legal Consultants, Islamic Civil Administrators, and Theoretical Law Bearers.
