Prof. Sudirman Highlights Issues of Family Endowment in His Inaugural Professor Ceremony

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, a significant event took place at the Faculty of Sharia, UIN Maliki. The dean of the faculty was officially inaugurated as a Professor of Islamic Law with a specialization in endowments. Prof. Dr. Sudirman Hasan, M.A., CAHRM donned the ceremonial robe and formally earned the academic title of professor.

Hundreds of participants, including academics, community and religious leaders, as well as family and neighbors, attended the ceremony. Alongside Prof. Sudirman, Prof. Dr. H. Langgeng Budianto, M.Pd., from the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, was also inaugurated.

In his inaugural speech, Prof. Sudirman addressed the issue of family endowment, a tradition passed down through generations and taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He highlighted the complexities surrounding endowment, such as the absence of land certificates, which could lead to the loss or misuse of endowed land. Family endowment emerges as a significant form of endowment with spiritual value and a means to ensure family resilience by involving family members in its management and benefiting from its productivity.

“With family endowment, future generations will have their living expenses, education costs, and well-being secured,” emphasized Prof. Sudirman, who completed nearly all his studies at Islamic educational institutions.

The inauguration ceremony was solemn, beginning at 8:30 AM and concluding at 12:00 PM. Various dignitaries expressed their pride in Prof. Sudirman’s achievements. Dr. Musleh Harry remarked that the event left a profound impression, as the individual being honored is the highest leader in the Faculty of Sharia. “We hope that Prof. Sudirman, as the highest-ranking leader, will inspire his juniors in the Faculty of Sharia with his exceptional academic spirit. Reaching the rank of professor is akin to climbing a mountain, representing the pinnacle of an academic career,” said Dr. Musleh, the chairman of the inauguration ceremony committee.
