Islamic Family Law Study Program Faculty of Sharia Holds International Workshop on Positive Internet Use as a Reflection of National Awareness

SYARIAH – Sunday, August 4, 2024 – The Faculty of Sharia at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang organized a workshop titled “Positive Internet Use as a Reflection of National Awareness” at the Indonesian School in Jeddah. The event began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UIN Maliki Malang and the Indonesian School in Jeddah. The MoU was signed by the Principal of the Indonesian School in Jeddah, Sutikno, M.Pd, and Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Umi Sumbullah, M.Ag. The MoU includes the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education, which is actualized through a Community Service Program at the Indonesian School in Jeddah.

The workshop on Positive Internet Use as a Reflection of National Awareness began at 11:00 AM and concluded at 1:00 PM Jeddah time. The workshop was attended by students from grades VII and XI of the Indonesian School in Jeddah. The first session was opened by Sheila Kusuma Wardani Amnesti, M.H, who discussed the theme “Wise Use of Social Media” from both positive law and Islamic law perspectives. This was followed by Erik Sabti Rahmawati (head of Islamic Family Law Study Program) and Jundiani (Sectretaris of Constitutional Law Study Program) , who focused on “National Awareness as a Filter for Wise Social Media Use.”

As part of the workshop, a post-test was conducted, supervised by Nurul Istiqomah, M.Ag., Dwi Fidhayanti, M.H., and Siti Zulaichah, M.Hum. The facilitators emphasized the importance of understanding national awareness for the children of migrant workers residing in Jeddah, as it can serve as a guide for responsible social media use.

The results of the post-test indicated a significant improvement in the students’ knowledge at the Indonesian School in Jeddah. The post-test was preceded by a pre-test to measure initial understanding.

“Alhamdulillah, the students’ understanding of internet use from both a positive law and Islamic law perspective has significantly improved after the workshop,” said Erik Sabti Rahmawati, M.A, one of the facilitators and the leader of the UIN Maliki Malang community service team.
