International Student Mobility Islamic Family Law Study Program: From Universities to Learning from Practitioners
SYARIAH – The International Class Program (ICP) Islamic Family Law Study Program, students of the Faculty of Sharia at UIN Maliki Malang undertook an academic journey to several institutions in Malaysia from May 7-18, 2024. This annual event included visits to Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bank Islam, Jabatan Kehakiman Syariah, USIM, the Indonesian Embassy, and several other strategic institutions as part of their academic visit. Beyond merely observing, students engaged in learning activities at major universities.
During this visit, 14 ICP students from the Faculty of Sharia, accompanied by the academic deputy dean, program representatives, several lecturers, and educational staff, explored the differences in academic and professional atmospheres between the two countries. They also held discussions on strategic collaborations in the context of the Tridharma of Higher Education.
“Such visits are very important for ICP students. First, they can apply their knowledge in a practical setting. Second, they can compare curricula or academic materials relevant to their field of study. There will naturally be significant policy differences between Indonesia and Malaysia. Third, students can conduct preliminary studies related to their research and theses. The social contexts of Malaysian and Indonesian societies are quite similar, which makes it an interesting area for study from the perspective of Islamic law or positive law, including HKI, HES, IAT, and HTN,” said Dr. Zaenul Mahmudi, Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Sharia at UIN Maliki.
