Islamic Family Law Study Program Faculty of Sharia Organizes International Service in Mecca, Promotes Wise Use of Social Media

SHARIA – On Thursday, August 1, 2024, the Faculty of Sharia at UIN Maliki Malang held an international service event at the Indonesian School of Mecca. This event was conducted as a socialization effort with the theme “Wise Use of Social Media from the Perspective of Positive Law and Islamic Law.” The attendees included 70 students, the principal, and teachers from the Indonesian School of Mecca (SIM).

Mr. Mustafa, S.Pd., M.Pd., Acting Principal of SIM, opened the event and delivered a speech. He emphasized that the event was very important and necessary for SIM students, who are mostly teenagers.

The event was presented by lecturers from the Faculty of Sharia at UIN Maliki, including Erik Sabti, M.A., M.Ag. Head of Islamic Family Law Study Program), Sheila Kusuma Wardani, MH.; Dra. Jundiani, M.Hum.; Nurul Istiqomah, M.Ag.; Siti Zulaichah, M.Hum.; and Dwi Fidhayanti, M.H. One of the presenters, Mrs. Sheila, mentioned that this was her first experience conducting international service.

“It turns out that many children of migrant workers attend school in Mecca. The dissemination of information about government programs, policies, and legal aspects of social media use in Indonesia is greatly needed for Indonesian children and colleagues living abroad. We hope that when they continue their studies in Indonesia, they will not experience information gaps or extreme cultural shock. Hopefully, we can collaborate with other countries in the future, both in terms of service and research,” said Sheila during an interview.

In addition to the socialization event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UIN Maliki and SIM. The focus of the MoU is cooperation between the two parties in implementing the three pillars of higher education.
